The Living Memorial is a memorial garden with several small museums and covered seating areas. The Living Garden was set up by the landowners Peter and Fran Theobald (a former RAF servicewoman) in 2009. They’ve donated a huge 20 acres of land to host dedication plaques and little museum huts for WW2. As well as WW2 memorials it now contains dedicatory plaques to a number of post-1945 conflicts including Korea, Suez, Northern Ireland and Afghanistan.

Known as ‘Operation Sweetpea’ there’s also about 700 neatly-planted trees paying tribute to the many lives lost, plus memorial seats and more than 100 plaques to name some of those who’ve died as a result of conflict in the past ten years.

Peter and Fran also do all the manual work, mowing, planting, building and local displays on the site.
